The Underground gets a splash of needed color

The College of Wooster Underground (UG) has always been a popular hang out place for students to relax, talk, play pool or dance the night away.  The UG is also known for hosting events ranging from Wooster Comedy, DJ Night and the annual College of Wooster Battle of the Bands competition.  Operated by fellow Wooster students, the UG is always open to new ideas to make the venue a better, more appealing place for Wooster students.

Recently, a campus group undertook a huge project to make its own contribution to the College Underground.  The UG has a new artistic side to their décor in the form of a mural to go along with the other wall art in the, otherwise  not-so-aesthetically pleasing, venue.

The Underground mural was an idea crafted by the plethora of artistic minds in the Community Art Connection (CAC) art group.   Maggie Roberts ’13 helped to contact the necessary individuals and create the final design for the mural.

The main thematic focus of the mural was a brick wall with the UG symbol breaking out of the middle.  After Roberts helped put the idea together, more interest was sparked when Susie Ko ’14 of the C.A.C. helped contact other students and volunteers to contribute to the mural.

After arranging a crowd of volunteers, the C.A.C. came together on an October afternoon to turn their idea into a reality.  Students contributing to the creation of the UG mural include Kathryn Kirkpatrick ’12, Aniecia Patridge ’15, and Charlie Fannelli ’12.  Andreja Sillunas ’14 contributed to this project as well by purchasing the materials needed to make the mural.

After a full month of long, hard work, all the effort finally paid off as the C.A.C. students revealed their new mural to the campus.  The mural is meant to encompass a more urban and contemporary setting.

Roberts explained that the mural will help to represent the social and enjoyable life that the UG brings to its many visitors.  The C.A.C. hopes this new mural will bring many more students to the UG as well as to the C.A.C. so that they can continue to bring students together in the years to come.

The mural is available in the UG for all students to see.  The C.A.C. is still working to help create more enjoyable experiences through their artistic talents.
