Women swim strongly, Men lose fourth consecutive dual meet

The College of Wooster women’s swim team cruised to their third straight win on Nov. 19 in a dual meet against Westminster College (Pa.).
The Scots defeated the Titans by a score of 161-126 and moved to a record of 3-2 in dual meets this season.
Notable performances included victories by Kate Hunt ‘13 in the 50 freestyle, 200 freestyle, and 100 butterfly.
Hunt’s victory in the 200 freestyle was thrilling, as she edged the second place finisher by a hundredth of a second to finish with a time of 1:58.38.
Melissa Haug ’12 also turned in multiple wins for the Scots, touching first in the 200 fly and the 200 individual medley. Melissa’s sister, Priscilla Haug ’12, brought home a win in the 200 backstroke.
Other winners for the Scots included Mariah McGovern ’14 (1000 freestyle), Samira El-Adawy ’13 (100 backstroke) and Morgan Hughes ’15 (100 freestyle).
In conference news, McGovern was named the NCAC athlete of the week for Nov. 13-20. The honor was given in recognition of her stellar performance in the Scots’ win at the 2011 Veale Classic.
The College of Wooster men’s team once again came up short versus Westminster, falling to the Titans by a score of 103-177. The Scots continue to look for their first team win of the season, moving to 0-5 on the year.
Peter Parisi ’13 turned in another outstanding individual performance, touching first in the 100 breaststroke, 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly.
Parisi’s win in the 100 breaststroke was particularly impressive, as he edged all competitors by three seconds to finish with a time of 1:00.70.
Alex LaJoie ’13 also brought home wins for the Scots, taking first in the 100 backstroke and 200 individual medley.
The men’s and women’s teams will compete in the Wooster Invitational on Dec. 1-3.
Participants in this competition include: Wooster, Ohio Northern University, the University of Mount Union, Case Western Reserve University, Westminster, Oberlin College, Edinboro University, Gannon University and Ashland University.
The meet will be the largest of the season thus far. It will take place at Wooster High School.
