It seems as if the Wooster field hockey team has pick up right where they left off last season.
The Scots won two thrilling games this past weekend as they defeated Rhodes College 4-3 on Saturday and Transylvania University 6-1 on Sunday.
The Scots won in overtime on Saturday, despite trailing the Lynx 1-3 at halftime.
After scoring twice in the second half to tie the game up at three goals apiece the Fighting Scots took over the match in overtime taking six shots while giving up none. Amanda Artman í10 scored the game winner upon receiving an incredible crossing pass from Stephanie Standera í11. This winning goal moved Artman to second on the schoolís all-time list, increasing her Fighting Scot career total to a very impressive 53 goals.
On Sunday Brittany Montgomery í10, scored the Scotsí first goal only six minutes into the game, led the Scots to victory. Artman and Maddie Hart í12 then combined for two more goals in the first half, which helped to give the Scots a 3-1 lead going into the break.
The Scots then proceeded to eliminate any chance Transylvania had of a comeback by scoring two goals early in the second, one by Eileen Barrer í11 and the other by Montgomery. The Scots then closed the door on Transylvania as Isabelle Howes í13 scored her first collegiate goal and gave the Scots a 6-1 lead to finish off the game.
Madalyn Myers í12 had stellar performances in both games with 19 saves versus Rhodes and six saves versus Transylvania. The 19 saves on Saturday marked a career-high for Myers whose previous record was 11.
The win over Transylvania marks a terrific 3-0 start for the reigning NCAC champions, as they are set to continue conference play this coming week. The Scots played Thursday at Oberlin College after the Voice went to press. They will travel to Earlham College tomorrow afternoon for a 1 p.m. match against the 2-1 Quakers.
