The men and women of the Wooster swimming and diving teams ended their season Saturday on a note they can be proud of,† with the women coming in third and the men sixth in the NCAC Championships.
The Scots can take much away from the championships as they look forward to the Kenyon Invitational and then on to the Div. III National championships.
The women managed to finish with an impressive 964 points to achieve their second third-place finish in three years at the NCAC championships. The only teams to beat out the Scots were Denison University and Kenyon College. The women were lead by Syd Kelly í10 and Caroline Hanson í13, who qualified for the championship finals in the 200-yard breaststroke. Kelly finished in fifth place overall with a time of 2:26.31, while Hanson managed an impressive seventh place overall with a time of 2:29.00.
In addition, Melissa Haug í12 managed a fifth-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly while her sister, Rebecca Haug í12, also finished in the top ten. The women also managed to perform well in the 400-yard medley relay. They achieved a third place finish with a time of 4:01.47.
For the men, Logan LaBerge í10 managed a sixth-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:54.96. Brett Dawson í11 managed a 12th-place finish in the consolation with a time of 1:58.57 and Ryan Radtke í10 managed a seventh place finish in the menís 1,650 freestyle with a time of 16:46.66. Michael Saltzman í10 achieved a 15th place finish in the 100-meter freestyle, while Kevin Audet í12 managed a 19th place finish in the 1,650 free.
In addition, Luke Knezevic í12 was awarded the NCAC Diver-of-theñYear honors. He marks the first male from Wooster to win this award. Although the men did not achieve their goal of an NCAC Championship, the senior class went out with a result they can be proud of.
Overall the Scots can be very proud of their performances. They managed to compete in the most challenging swimming conference in Div. III.
This weekend, they will compete in the Kenyon Invitational in Gambier, Ohio.† In addition, the Scots have much too look forward to in the coming weeks as they will play co-host for the Div. III National Championship, along with Beloit College.
