The College of Wooster’s men’s and women’s track and field teams competed in the All-Ohio championships last Saturday. The women placed 10th while the men placed 17th in two 18-team fields.
The high bar for Wooster was set by Hilary Coady ’16 and Paris Nahas ’16, both of whom received All-Ohio certificates for their performances.
Coady placed third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.98. She also led the field in the 400-meter hurdles with a mark of 1:02.49. These are the seventh and eighth times that Coady has earned All-Ohio honors. (She also earned them for the pentathlon earlier this year.)
“I think the team’s overall performance, given the competition level, was better than last year,” said Coady. “I feel the senior class across All-Ohio is one of, or the strongest, in NCAA DIII.”
Coady also ran with the fifth-place 4×400 relay team, placed 12th in the shot put and came in 14th for javelin.
Nahas received All-Ohio honors when she placed third in the 400-meter race with a time of 57.71. According to WoosterAthletics.com, this breaks a nearly three-decade-old record for the event — a 58.02 set in 1988 by Stephanie Kazmierski ’88.
Nahas also placed eighth in the 200 meters and was on the team that came in 10th in the 4×100 relay. She joined Coady on the fifth-place 4×400 relay team.
“My favorite part of track is being a part of a relay team and working together with three other individuals to improve our time each week,” said Nahas. “It is an incredible feeling when you and your team reach a goal you have set together.”
Coach Dennis Rice was pleased with the teams’ efforts overall and especially with Coady and Nahas.
“The men and women had excellent overall team efforts,” said Rice. “Hilary and Paris had outstanding performances. They both continue to dominate the hurdles and sprints at the conference and national level.”
