This past weekend, the men’s and women’s track and field team competed in the North Coast Athletic Championships Heptathlon and Pentathlon.

Connor Maley ’17 competed in the heptathlon, while Hillary Coady ’16 and Carolyn Webster ’19 competed in the pentathlon.

The heptathlon and pentathlon each consist of multiple events.

The women’s pentathlon includes a high jump, long jump, shot put, 60-meter sprint and 800-meter run.

The men’s heptathlon includes all of these events in addition to 60-meter hurdles, pole vaulting, and a 1000-meter run.

Coady and Webster both finished in the top four in the women’s pentathlon.

Coady took first place in three events: high jump, shot put and 800-meter dash.

Coady’s final score of 3,581 set a new school and personal record. Her previous top score was 3,387 earlier this year.

Webster took fourth overall. Her top two events were the long jump and high jump. She took third place in both.

Webster’s final score was 2,965, 63 points above the fifth-place finish.

On the men’s side, Maley competed against multiple Ohio schools in the heptathalon, which takes place across two days.

He finished ninth overall. His best event was the 1000-meter run, in which he finished seventh with a time of 3:05.08.

“The competition this year was a lot tougher than in years past,” Maley stated. “Many of the guys that competed hit some really solid marks.”

The three Wooster competitors will be joined by the rest of their teammates this weekend at Kenyon College to finish the NCAC Championships.

“Connor, Hilary and Carolyn had excellent performances at the NCAC combined events,” stated Dennis Rice, head coach of the track and field teams. “We’re excited about competing in the NCAC Indoor Championships March 4 and 5. The team is also looking forward to the start of the upcoming outdoor track and field season.”

Next weekend, the NCAA Div. III National Championships will be hosted by Grinell College in Grinnell, Iowa. The top-17 competitors in Div. III track and field across the nation in each event are invited to compete. Wooster will learn which athletes have qualified for the Championships on Saturday after the NCAC conference championships.
