The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) recently awarded women’s field hockey players Kerry O’Connor ’17 and Rose Taylor ’19 with spots on the All-Great Lakes Regional Second-Team. O’Connor, a forward, notched a team-high 27 points while starting every game for the Scots. She also led the team in goals, 11, and shooting percentage, 24 percent. O’Connor attributes much of her on-field success to her teammates.
“We had an awesome team dynamic on the field this season, which really helped us stay motivated and push each other to work harder,” she said. “The team itself came in strong and fit from the off season which gave us more time to work on individual and team skills.”
Taylor, a midfielder, also started every game for the Fighting Scots. She finished with four goals, 10 points and two assists.
“I would describe my role on the team as a distributor in the middle of the field and a leader not by voice but by example,” Taylor said. “I think my team-focused play and hard work garnered their attention.”
In addition, Taylor received her second career All-NCAC award and O’Connor received a first team All-NCAC bid. The women’s field hockey team concluded the season with a 9-10 record, which was a three-win improvement from the previous year.
The Scots finished fifth in NCAC standings this past season.
