Tennis strikes competition

The College of Wooster men’s tennis team won four of their seven games during their Spring Break trip to Orlando, Florida. The Scots were bested in two straight matches against Wabash College and Div. I Valparaiso University before going on a four-game win streak against Lake Forest College, Ursinus College, Colorado College and Bethel University. The Scots lost their last game of the trip against Grinnell College.

After losing two straight matches, the Scots rallied with an important 8-1 victory against Lake Forest. Their dominating performances boosted the Scots against Ursinus. The Scots were a perfect 5-0 in singles matches to clinch the win over Ursinus 7-2. In their fifth match, the Scots achieved an impressive 6-3 victory over Colorado College with four victories in singles matches and two wins in doubles competition. For their win over Bethel, the Scots struggled in doubles matches, losing two of three, but were able to secure their fourth straight win during singles matches with only one loss.

The Scots had notable performances from their roster throughout the trip, demonstrating the team’s depth. Leading the way was Titas Bera ’18 who went 5-2 in the seven-match span during singles competition. Bera also partnered with his fellow Scots to win three of four doubles matches. Jack Buchan ’17 and Willy Nelson ’15 were both 4-1 in singles matches, while Jacob Pine ’15 went 3-2 in singles competition as well. The Scots had strong performances from a number of doubles match pairings.

The Scots are in action again on Saturday in a NCAC match at Oberlin College at 4 p.m.
