The College of Wooster women’s lacrosse team reached two milestones in their impressive start to their 2015 season. Head Coach Elizabeth Ford marked her 100th win with the Scots while Shelby Stone ’15 and Ellie Hudson-Heck ’16 each scored their 100th college-career goal.

These impressive milestones were achieved in a slew of non-conference games, jumpstarting their season.

Opening day, the Scots battled against nationally ranked State University of New York-Fredonia. Despite ultimately falling short by a score of 11-13, the Scots performed well against a tough opponent.

Goalkeeper Isabel Perman ’16 echoed these sentiments when she stated: “We had a great showing [against] Fredonia … Even though we lost, the deficit was much smaller than last year, and I think that game really is a good display of how far we have come from last season.”

The team responded well to the tight loss and flexed their offensive muscles in a victory over Carthage College by a score of 19-3. In the next match of their spring trip, the team fell to Sewanee University of the South. The Scots were impressive offensively, but ultimately they could not contain the opposition’s high-powered offense. Ford titled the game a “setback” but was pleased with how the Scots responded to their record falling to 1-2. She noted that the team was able to “bounce back and put things together” over the course of their next three matches.

Wooster pulled its record back to .500 with a resounding victory over Mount St. Joseph University. Notably in the match, Stone tallied the 100th and 101st goals of her collegiate career, an impressive individual achievement. Another standout in the Scots’ performance was attacker Jamie Wren-Jarvis ’16 (two goals, three assists).

The Scots’ next match resulted in a resounding 22-2 victory over Alma College that pushed their record to 3-2. The victory was especially significant for Ford, who tallied her 100th win as the head coach of the women’s lacrosse team.

“I knew coming into the season that the team would be able to get me to my 100th win,” coach Ford said. “It has been a roller coaster of a ride over my 10 seasons here, and this season we have seen many milestones reached with Shelby and Ellie both reaching 100 goals, as well as myself with 100 wins. It is always a special season when you reach a milestone. This is second to earlier in my career becoming the winningest coach at Wooster.”

The conference schedule for the Scots began last Friday, when the team traveled to face off against Hiram College. In pursuit of earning themselves an early advantage in the conference, the Scots defeated Hiram by a score of 20-3 to extend their winning streak. Hudson-Heck achieved her personal milestone during this game as she reached 100 career goals at Wooster.

The Scots (4-2) will travel to Kenyon College today for (5-1) a match at 5 p.m.
