Romney lead not certain

Eric Moizuk

Remember the time when everyone thought that Mitt Romney was “totally gonna win the nomination,” except for Gingrich, who told us he would build a base on the moon by the end of his second term?

Well, from there the election has gone in a completely different direction. From the recount in Iowa that ended up with Santorum winning by like eight votes and Gingrich’s upset win in South Carolina, the campaign trail for Romney has been a pretty rough path. Despite Romney’s supposed overwhelming support from campaign donors and supporters through the new Super PAC system (thank you Citizen’s United) he is still trailing Santorum nationally by almost 10 points. 10 bloody points. Romney isn’t even leading in his home state of Michigan, which has a primary next week.

Romney is doing nothing to help his image. Whether it was the time he decided to try and woo the senior citizens he was speaking to at a retirement in community in Florida by singing “America the Beautiful” (though he did win that state), or when he was speaking about how much he loves Michigan because “the trees are the right height,” he is just digging himself a deeper hole in this election.

And he manages to trail behind a man who says that Obama is trying to limit the country’s freedom by putting a stop on oil drilling. That he is infringing on the freedoms of religious organizations by making them supply contraception to women who want it even though the organizations do not need to pay for it themselves (also, they get billions of dollars a year that go untaxed; please stop complaining about having to hand out things you aren’t even paying for), and says gay marriage is wrong using the “flawless” and “tactful” argument that sums up thusly; napkins aren’t paper towels, you can call them paper towels, but they are not paper towels.

Romney really needs to step up his game if he is trailing behind that clownsicle.
