After dropping a game to Wittenberg, the women’s basketball team was looking to rebound against Ohio Wesleyan on Jan. 25. The team fought hard against the Battling Bishops but ultimately lost 66-57.

The team entered the game having won two of their last four, matching their win total from last season in that short span, and looking to continue that trend. The team had a slow start, trailing Ohio Wesleyan for the entirety of the first half, eventually going into the break losing 44-25.

With 12 minutes left the Scots were trailing the Battling Bishops 50-38 but put together an exciting run that looked to turn things around, managing an unanswered eight points to make the score 50-46. From that point on though, the Battling Bishops dominated the game, leading by as much as 14 at one point. Despite out-rebounding the Bishops by 13, the Scots were hurt by allowing them to shoot 45.5 percent (10-22) from behind the three point line when the Bishops entered averaging only 28.2 percent. The Scots were also hurt by having just six assists in the night yet allowing 18.

A highpoint in the night for the team was Suvi Puripattarapan ’14 who scored a career high 20 points while going 11-of-12 from the free point line with six rebounds, three steals and two of the team’s six assists in 38 minutes off the bench. Other high points in the night included Jessica Wingen ’13 who had 11 points and eight rebounds, and Samantha Sulzer ’12 who had eight points and nine rebounds.

On Tuesday, the Scots traveled to Granville, Ohio to take on Denison University. The Big Red’s lead was never in doubt during their 74-46 blowout.

Wooster’s record dropped to 3-14, 2-7 NCAC. The Scots will be on the road again tonight, as they match up against Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio at 7:30 p.m. Tomorrow, the Scots will host the Kenyon College Ladies at 7:30 p.m. in Timken Gymnasium.
