New Mom’s concoction has campus talking

Every student at The College of Wooster has heard of the Big Cheese. The sandwich, notorious for including not only nacho and mozzarella cheese on Texas toast, but also mozzarella sticks, has been a favorite at Mom’s Truck Stop since its debut fall semester. However, this semester introduces a new sandwich that one-ups this old favorite. Just added to the menu three weeks ago, the Big Gigantic has everything the Big Cheese has to offer, plus a few new food groups. With these additions, this upgraded sandwich will surely not disappoint the hordes of hungry students lining up at Mom’s this weekend.
The sandwich, about five inches high, is a lot to take in at once. All those brave enough to sink their teeth into one will enjoy not only the familiar ingredients of a Big Cheese, but the creative additions of three onion rings and a spicy chicken sandwich patty as well. With the incorporation of these two sides students get an entire, arguably delicious, Mom’s meal in one sandwich. “Mom’s needed a new ‘dare’ item on their menu since the Big Cheese was getting so many hits,” said Francesca Cistone ’15, an employee at Mom’s.
For the more health-conscious students, the Big Gigantic is not the obvious choice. However, the sandwich’s creator, Adam Shapiro ’13, says that there are ways to make it a more practical option. “You have to split it with a bunch of other people to make in reasonable. It has a community aspect to it,” said Shapiro. Alanna Faust ’15, known for her healthy eating habits, agrees with Shapiro, saying, “The Big Gigantic was an adventure. Even though I don’t think I will ever order it again, I was more than happy to sit in Mom’s with friends and communally devour the thing.”
Though it may seem like a menu item more gluttonous than the Big Cheese risks defying the morals of even Paula Deen, the Big Gigantic seems well on its way to becoming a staple at Mom’s. “So far, I’ve seen the Big Gigantic eaten by big jocks, skinny girls and everything in between. Most people seem intimidated by it, but many people are up for the challenge and are eager to try it,” said Cistone.
Students will surely want for nothing more after about two bites, making it worth the steep price of eight dollars if split with a few other brave friends. For all those looking for a little excitement, to take on a dare, or who are just really hungry, the Big Gigantic will satisfy.
