Last weekend the cross country teams traveled to Delaware, Ohio for the All-Ohio Championship Meet. The race is an event that is just as intense as it sounds, featuring big Div. I schools such as Ohio State University, Miami University of Ohio, and the Universtiy of Cincinnati competing against Div. III schools including Wooster. With a race that literally features every school in Ohio, runner Ethan Rudawsky í12 put it best in saying ìThe All-Ohio Race separates the men from the boys, the harriers from the wannabes and the champions from the pretenders.”
Last Saturday at 11:45 a.m. the stage was set and the conditions were iffy. Due to the torrential downpour the night before, the race was slick to say the least. At big turns in the race, there were traffic jams of people trying to navigate sharp turns without getting a face full of mud. Around every corner the mud got so bad, some racers ended up just cutting the course.
Since there were over 50 schools and horrible conditions, most of the times were not as fast as expected. Especially time consuming were the points in the race where some runners could not even move from being stuck in such a large group around a sharp turn.
The womenís team put up a great fight placing ninth in Div. III. None of the scorers for the Scots placed below the top 100 for Div. III schools, and Sarah Appleton í12 (who placed 25th overall), and Colleen OíNeil í13 even managed to place in the top 100 for all racers from all schools. Other scorers for the lady Scots were Erin Plews-Ogan í13, Chelsea Fisher í11 and Suzanne Capehart í11.
The menís team ran as strong as they could and came out in 14th in Div. III schools. Like the womenís team, none of them placed below 100th in Div. III, and Terry Workman í10 finished 25th overall with a time of 28:20.5. Also scoring for the Scots was Rudawsky, Micah Caunter í12, Rik Workman í10 and Jeff Lyman í10, in his first scoring meet of the season.
